Monitoring the reproduction of other psittacines

All the nestlings of blue-fronted amazon fledged last month and left the nests, as their reproductive season came to an end. So this month we focused on monitoring the reproduction of two other psittacine species: the nanday parakeet (Aratinga nenday) and the blue-crowned parakeet (Thectocercus acuticaudatus.

Many of the nests of these species are very hard to gain access to, as the entrance of the nest cavity are very small.

Feather samples were collected from the nestling for future DNA testing and sexing.

Besides that, we also did the routine activities of the Project, such as searching for new nests and observation of the behavior and activities of many psittacine species.

During this field trip we had a surprise: we found a dead snake incide a nest of nanday parakeet! One of our hypothesis is that the snake tried to feed on the nestlings, and the brave parents killed it!!!

Another great surprise was the encounter with an amazing jaguar during our morning work! It was incredible!!! The Pantanal is still gorgeous, with its unique beauty and surprises!🙂

Great news! A new donation for the Project!!

Dear friends, we are very happy to share with this great news with you!!

We have just received another donation for the Project – a brand new compact digital camera (it was one of the items in our Wish List)!! The donation came all the way from the UK, from one of our followers, Coll. And it came just in time – we were in need of a new camera to monitor the nests this breeding season, as our old one stopped working some time ago.

Thank you so very much Coll!!🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

A photographer in the field

Dear friends,

earlier this month we had a special visit in one of our field trips! Victor Moriyama is a photographer (Revista Horizonte Geográfico), and he came along with us to check on the birds. Check out some of the amazing pictures he took!🙂

Sadly, this is also the part of the year where the illegal animal trade of Blue-fronted Amazon is more intense…😦 This makes us so upset… and gives us even more will to keep fighting for these birds and the Pantanal! If this also upsets you, please share this post with all your friends in your social media! The more we are, the more we can do for them!
